About Liquid Culture / Application:

Liquid culture is mycelium (the vegetative part of a fungus) that is colonizing and suspended in a nutritious liquid. Mushroom cultivators find liquid cultures highly effective in jump-starting the mushroom cultivation process. The liquid culture is contained in a sterile syringe that can be utilized in many different cultivation techniques. You may inject the liquid culture into sterilized grain jars/bags, substrate bags, agar petri dishes, or even another jar containing sugar water to create more liquid culture. For aggressive strains (like oysters) you’ll even use it to colonize pasteurized substrates directly.

Storage:

Upon receiving the culture, store the liquid cultures in the refrigerator until use to maximize their shelf life. Liquid cultures will last 6+ months if properly stored.

Liquid Cultures vs. Spore Syringes:

Spore syringes contain a solution of spores suspended in sterilized water, with each spore having unique genetics. Liquid cultures contain mycelium from a single isolated strain that has proven top of the range genetics. Liquid cultures will provide consistency. Spore syringes provide unique genetics of which you would isolate the best performing strains later on. Generally you would only wish to use a spore syringe if you wanted to create a new sub-variety of a mushroom species and experiment with genetics, as results are unpredictable as the more than a few strains compete with each other over the substrate and the strains that are produced may not be of the highest quality.
